Your initial consultation with Dr. Dees typically lasts about 90 minutes. An additional appointment is often needed to clarify details prior to writing a letter of support for Immigration Court. A complete life history will be taken, including past and current mental health details, medical history, family/social history and other details relevant to your immigration case.
These evaluations are typically for partners of US citizens or permanent residents. They are used to assess and identify unique factors that may be contributing to the client's psychological distress such as family separation, illness, disability, professional, financial or academic hardships, or adverse home-country conditions that may affect the petitioner or their family members.
Assess and detail psychological issues that serve to support immigraion proceedings. These evaluations can document the trauma (exposure to violence, harassment, and other human rights violations) asylum seekers have faced and provide evidence of their threatened identity. These psychological evaluations may support an approved asylum decision.
Assess and document the psychological impact (physical, emotional, social) of abuse or violence (sexual abuse, domestic violence, exploitation, kidnapping, human trafficking, rape, and forced prostitution) on the immigrant, as well as consideration of the potential long-term effects on their mental health and well-being.
These assessments document the physical or emotional abuse sustained as a result of being the victim of a serious crime. These evaluations are crucial in evaluating the immigrant's mental state and the mental health consequences resulting from exposure to a crime, and understanding the individual's unique vulnerabilities and experiences as a reaction to these traumas.
Assessment that identify and document developmental disabilities or mental impairments affecting cognitive functioning - including dementia, learning disorders, attention deficits, PTSD, and other neurocognitive dysfunctions.
Testing is usually recommended when there are symptoms or complaints involving memory or thinking, unusual/altered behaviors, changes in emotional or academic functioning, or personality issues.
Changes in these areas can be due to any number of medical, neurological, psychological or genetic causes. Testing will be helpful in understanding your specific situation.
An evaluation usually consists of an interview and testing. During the interview, Dr. Dees and his team will ask about your symptoms, medical history, medications and other important factors
Testing involves taking paper and pencil and computerized tests and answering questions.
The time required for an assessment depends on the problem being assessed. In general, several hours are needed to complete the assessment. Some tests will be easy, whereas others will be more difficult. The important thing is to do your best.
.
Evaluations are often requested specifically to help your doctors, mental health therapists, teachers and other professionals understand how the different areas and systems of your brain are working
